Pleased to know you are in development. We have 8 evdo minimax and would be pleased to field test the new 3G version for you.

  2. Alister Crook says:

I am a Electrical Service Engineer in Queensland and use the minimax unit extensively in the eastern and central western queensland region.

If you are interested in trialing the new 3G unit in this area I may be of assistance.

    Contact me on my email.

  3. Lawrence De Costa says:

    Hi Maxon,

Just wondering when the NextG version of the Ethermax router will come available. Will you have a consumer grade one and a ‘ruggedised’ one as well ? I don’t realy care but more rugged would be better as we are talking remote telmetry etc apps which means we cannot guarantee the healthy environment always…

Also, with the Ethermax, there is a current ‘feature’ where if there is no LAN activity, the Wireless 1xrtt WAN side drops out. In the new proposed NextG Ethermax, will you be able to set a parameter so that the Wireless NextG side is always on ?

    Thanks

  4. David says:

    Lawrence,

At this stage we don’t have answers to most of your questions! In terms of time frame we’re still working toward late Feb for the release date. We aren’t planning on providing different versions of the modem (in terms of ruggedising at least).

There’ll be more details on functionality available over the next month or so.

  5. James says:

    Hi Maxon,

Will the industrial modem support a serial interface.

    James

  6. David says:

James, yes it will has RS-232 connectivity (serial)

  7. Ben Davis says:

    Hi Maxon

I was wondering if the USB minimax (Next G) devices will have the option for an external antenna or not?

We have a bunch of 5500 devices connected up to WYSE boxes that work well but Next G will make them even more useful. Will the existing aerials be compatible with the Next G replacements?

Don’t suppose you have any product pictures that might shed more light on their options…?

    Ben

  8. David says:

    Ben,

The MiniMax does have an external antenna connector. The exisiting CDMA antennas will work with the Next G modem.

In terms of pictures, there are a couple on this blog, just look at some of the posts further up!

  9. John says:

what are the features of industrial and ethernet versions of modem. i wish to network with several mac and pc computers in soho environment, via wire and wireless environments. friend has modem on trial and voip is seems to have latency isssue. any resolution on this issue?

  10. David says:

    John,

The ethernet modem will be the one to wait for. It will allow multiple computers to connect through the one device.

As to VoIP, I made a post about some tests we ran with Skype. The performance of VoIP will greatly depend on signal strength and tower congestion. If it’s not working great for him, then unfortunately that is just the nature of the technology, and not an ‘issue’ as such that can be fixed.

  11. hubert says:

    hi maxon,
i’ll be spending 6 months on my boat around the torres strait islands as of feb 07. will there be a wireless broadband modem available for macbook pro that i can use in that area by then ?

  12. Russell says:

As we are unable to get ADSL at one of our business sites a Next G ethernet modem seems the only solution for broadband that will work for what we need.

Can’t wait for the Ethernet modem

  13. David says:

    hubert,

hopefully yes! We are almost there with the Mac OS drivers for our Next G USB modems, so there will hopefully be a connection manager available before Feb.

  14. Ralph says:

Are any details available on the command interface to the industrial modem? Will it be similar to the MM-5100? Will the modem have a TCP/UDP socket stack?

  15. David says:

    Ralph,

I don’t have details of the interfacing yet, and how similar it will be to the MM-5100. I know we are tring to make it as compatible as possible, but can’t promise anything!

We will provide a TCP/IP stack version of the modem in time (probably not with initial versions).

  16. vimax works says:

Wow, this was a really quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this too – taking time and actual effort to make a good post… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and never appear to get something done.
