MiniMax problems with Mac OS

Over the past week we have come up across a few difficulties with the Mac OS support for the Next G MiniMax. Primary among these was the fact that Mac OS does not yet have USB drivers that are compatible with the chipset which MiniMax uses (Qualcomm MSM-6280), without these drivers it is impossible to create connection software.

Following discussion with Apple (in Australia and the US), we are very pleased that the Apple hardware development team are working on providing USB drivers for this chipset. It will be tight, but we are still aiming to have Mac OS support for the Next G MiniMax at launch!

    John,

There are a couple of options. There is a company called mycom that produces a PCMCIA – USB adaptor. I don’t know whether it will work with the Next G card though, you will need to ask them. (http://www.mycom.com.au/elan.html)

The other option is to hold off for a month or so, and we will be releasing a couple of USB options (eg, a Next G version of our MiniMax), which will have Mac OS support.

When you do release this version, where can I buy it?

    Heidi,

The MiniMax should be available through Telstra stores.
