Vista support for Next G modems

We received today the initial version of our Windows Vista drivers for the Next G modems!

Initial testing has gone quite smoothly, so we will hopefully be providing these quite soon. The drivers are Microsoft WHQL certified, which means the installation is seamless.
At this stage they only allow the modems to work as a dial up modem (as opposed to a wireless networking device which our Win XP drivers simulate). This appears to be an issue with Qualcomm, so we are waiting on them.

Screenies:

Vista connection screenie 1

Vista connection screenie 2

I also ran a quick speed test on Vista (performance.toast.net) and average around 900kbps.

What are the chances of publishing the drivers (beta etc) and or the instrcutions to setting up the dialup modem as an alternate?

    Cheers

Any word on when the Vista drivers will become available? I’m testing a USB Next-G modem and can’t use it on a Vista equipped notebook, which is really annoying, as the Next-G PCMCIA card heats up the notebook’s palm-rest too much for comfortable typing. The USB modem will solve this… but no drivers!! ;-) Glad to hear that beta drivers are going well, but all Vista users wanting the USB Next-G solution are anxiously awaiting the driver release!

    Many thanks
    Alex.

Will these drivers be ready for release at or before the release of Vista on 30th Jan? I need to upgrade ASAP to start supporting clients and this is critical to the upgrade.

    Thanks
    Brad.

    Hi David,

Any update? We’re all waiting for answers. Many thanks in advance…

    Cheers
    Alex.

    We’re still in consultation!

We should at least have some stop-gap measures available within the next week or so (once our new website goes live!)

The problem has been with getting the NDIS side of things (wireless networking) working, the dial-up networking component has been going fine.

  6. Grant says:

Fantastic news David, we look forward to it.

I hope i don’t have to wait too long as i joined telstra’s bigpond yesterday and i can’t connect because the maxon vista driver isn’t out yet. All the install works until it tried to install maxon drivers.

  8. Alex says:

Great news – we all really appreciate it!

I don’t see the news that you speak of. Am i missing something?

  10. Brad says:

Ok its less than a week before Vista is released, where are the drivers or what is the dial up networking method?

Please, some of us have to start supporting Vista so the sooner the better.

    Thanks!

I haven’t heard anything. I think i will just return the desktop modem to bigpond as i can’t surf the net with Vista. This is very annoying as i want to be able to play supreme commander beta and i need internet to start a game.

  12. Hi mojoman69 (and I guess to everyone else)

This blog previously mentioned that there’d been some more success and that beta drivers were closer – or words that effect if my memory serves correctly. That’s why a visitor called Grant and I said it was great to hear the news.

Not sure why the other blog entries from David have disappeared – maybe the beta drivers are going to take longer that initially expected, which I hope isn’t the case. Vista launches in 3 days after all. Anyway… fingers crossed everything’s on track and drivers appear soon!

They must obviously be more difficult to write than one would imagine… otherwise they’d be here. Oh well. Vista is promoted with ‘the wow starts now’. But as always with a new version of Windows, when it comes to new drivers, users are well used to ‘the ow starts now’ kind of feeling. hahah :-)

Ok good Maxon people – I think I can safely say we do appreciate all of your efforts and, at the same as understanding that drivers can be tricky things, we all hope they arrive soon. :-)

    Alex

  13. David says:

Guys, please see the posts in the main blog, there’s more news about Vista there ;)

  14. scott says:

Where do we find the blog?

  15. scott says:

how can it take this long for a simple solution 2 months come on

  16. scott says:

still no drivers or solution for 64Bit ????

  17. vic ranse says:

Are the Vista drivers available yet for the Bigpond USB Maxon BP3?
I was informed by the end of Feb.

  18. David says:

    scott,

If it was a simple solution, we would have had it by now!

  19. scott says:

I can’t believe it has been 4 months almost and there still isn’t any drivers or solution. I will never be buying maxon hardware ever again!!!

  20. David says:

Sorry to hear that Scott. Unfortunately that’s one of the problems of being early on the uptake of new technology (64 bit win vista in your case), it often takes a bit of time for every one else to catch up…
