MiniMax software – update (inc Vista and MCE)

We’ve continued working on the next software release for the Telstra Turbo Modem.

In order to not be providing continual updates, we’re trying to fix all the bugs and include all the compatibility in the one release. Further to what we expected, we’re also trying to include 64bit drivers for Vista into this release also. It will hopefully mean that the Telstra Turbo Modem will work natively with XP, XP Media Centre Edition, and all flavours of Vista. We’re also fixing a few other bugs, which will increase the stability of the software considerably!

There will still be a couple of limitations on the new software. At this stage, we have not found a workaround for the software requiring admin rights to work (on Vista). We are working with Microsoft to resolve this, but we don’t yet have a fix. There is also a limitation in the modem for the username/password of around 30 characters. For some users on IP WANs this can be an issue.

You don’t state a release date.
There are a lot of us stuck at the moment.

Can I try a beta version??

  2. David says:

    Jeff,

The reason I haven’t given a release date is that it depends upon Telstra’s approval process rather than us. As it’s out of our control, I don’t want to promise something that we can’t guarantee to happen!

We can’t release the software at all until it’s been approved.

What problem are you experiencing? We do have some work arounds for most issues in the mean time…

  3. Rob says:

Do you have a beta version software available?? I have your modem with telstra as my only option for internet access… I realise this is not your issue directly however i can not do my job with out internet access … cheers hoping you can provide a temp solution until final approvals completed 31 march 07

    Hi there
I have just bought a Minimax from Telecom NZ, I need a Vista driver to run it on my new Dell laptop. Pls give me an update of where you are at with this.
    Tks

  5. David says:

    Hi Bradley,

The drivers that come with the CDMA MiniMax are Vista compatible. Have you tried installing the software? If not, try using it as a dial-up connection.

  6. Tony says:

David, I cannot get the CDMA MiniMax working with Vista. I get a message saying that there is no dial tone. Can you tell me how it works.

    Tony

  7. David says:

    Tony,

Please give our tech support line a call on (02) 9707 2000. They should be able to help you further.

  8. Riana says:

I am having trouble with Vista. I have just bought a new laptop and am trying to install my minimax. It gets through the installation wizard, but the first time I plugged it in, there was a problem with the “new hardware”. When I try to use the program, it says that minimax.exe has stopped working and it will tell me if it finds a solution (which it doesn’t!). Does the minimax require a vista driver or another way to work around this??

  9. David says:

    Riana,

Please give our tech support team a call (02) 9707 2000, they should be able to help you further!

  10. Leon says:

I am having exactly the same problem as Riana with the same words appearing. The Minimax software appears to install properly. The green light comes on the modem and when you start the software it says, after a couple of seconds, “Maxon_Minimax has stopped working”. Again it does not provide a solution; so much for Vista’s much-vaunted help. I shall see what the techs say but it does appear it is NOT compatible with Vista.

  15. Ramon says:

    Hi,
I am trying to use my MiniMax Broadband card on a Vistra Laptop. The software installs fine but when I go to connect I am recieving a “680 No Dial Tone” error. This card works fine on a Windows XP machine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

Hi, using Turbo modem on XP but its very buggy. Says “cannot detect modem” as soon as you go in and out of coverage; drops connection and hangs PC in a high signal area; etc. Upgraded from Minimax which was bombproof, great sofwtare! but this Turbo Modem software is not production quality. What is the rough estimate of a version with bugs fixed and is there a list of the bugs currently being fixed in the software or to be fixed ? Thanks.

  17. David says:

    Ramon,

Please give our tech support line a call (02) 9707 2000. They should be able to help you further.

    Chris,
What version of XP are you running? We do have internal bug fix lists, however these are not publicly available at this stage. When we release the next version of the software (which is hopefully only a few weeks away) I’ll try to get a changelog released with it.

  18. Chris says:

Thanks David. It’s XP with SP2.

Can you confirm if the bug which says cannot detect modem after loosing signal (then it fails to keep retrying and you must close the software and take the modem out and back in) is fixed or scheduled to be fixed?

  19. David says:

    Chris,

    It certainly is.
