All working now... I'm not sure exactly how this happy state came to pass though, but I did see (and follow) the following advice:

1. Fire up the Maxon PrefPane, and sign in thru that
2. THEN fire up the BigPond beta client, and things will look good thru it. (get signal strength, connect time, etc).

I didn't delete any of the maxon or bigpond software; but I did reinstall first the maxon and then the bigpond betas. Maybe the order is important here.

The good thing about connecting in this sequence is that you avoid the bigpond-wont-connect-with-other-networks-active error that the bigpond beta gives.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('769','Simon Kaplan','All working now...
Hi Simon,

Not sure what your options are! In order to effectively remove ours, open the HDD, and do a search for MaxonHSDPA (in computer), and deleting everthing that appears should effectively remove our software.

I'm not sure how to remove BigPond's one though.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('764','David','Hi Simon,\r\n\r\nNot sure what your options are!
Hi all

A few weeks ago, when this beta was released to the list, I installed it and was delighted that it worked so well. When the BP beta came out I installed that, too, and since then have not been able to get either to work. The Maxon Beta just spins and times out 'connecting', and the bigpond one tries to register the modem and then says 'no signal'. Interestingly, the Maxon diagnostics pane tells me I have a strong signal (as good as -88Db) when this happens.

Anyone have any suggestions for (a) how to get the BP beta to work, and/or (b) how to go back to using the Maxon Beta successfully.

I've seen various instructions re turning the modem off, but as far as I can tell the blue usb 'bigpond' modem doesnt have an on/off switch!

cheers and thanks
