Telstra Turbo Modem Mac Leopard Compatible Driver

Maxon Australia has released the Mac Leopard compatible driver, the driver is compatible with Mac 10.3.9 and above. PleaseÂ read the installation guide for Mac before proceeding with the installation.Â We recommend that you upgrade your modem firmware toÂ version 2.0.18. This can only be done on a windows machine.

The Release Candidate (non-beta) version of the Mac OS software for our Next G modems has been delayed slightly due to the need to incorporate a firmware update client.Â However it’s fast approaching completion, so while the final development and testing occurs, here’s a preview of some of it’s features:

Significantly more stable than the BETA versions
PIN unlock support
Profile management
Improved interface (with system bar icon and menu)
Firmware update client
Auto-software updates
Supports multiple simultaneous modem connections

We now have available Beta 3 for the Mac OS.Ã‚Â Beta 3 includes improved stability, and it responds properly to the computer sleep.

It’s been a little while since our last post, time for an update!

There are a couple of outstanding areas we have been working for the MiniMax:

Firstly, the next software update. This will include software, drivers and firmware updates for the modem. This will fix a number of bugs, and increase the stability of the modem. The new drivers will also work properly with all versions of Windows XP (including media center edition), and 32bit versions of Windows Vista. They also resolve issues to do with limited user accounts not being able to access/use the modem software. This update will hopefully be available within a few weeks, pending Telstra approval (the drivers have received WHQL certification).

Secondly, the next release for Mac OS. We’ve been working on a comprehensive interface (with some quite pretty usage reporting) as well as fixes for a couple of outstanding bugs. It’s been one of these bugs that has been our biggest bane, proving to be extremly tricky to track down (even with help from Apple’s development team). At this stage we’re still working on a fix for it, without an ETA.Ã‚ If you are experiencing problems with our current Beta (where the modem is not detected), make sure you are connecting the modem with the supplied USB cable.Ã‚ In our testing this has removed the issue by about 98%.
The ModMax has also been progressing rapidly. It is now in with Telstra undergoing the approval process. It’s proved to be a very interesting process, learning the differences and similarities from the CDMA days. Packet switched data is significantly faster, however circuit switched data peaks at 9.6bps, slower than CDMA. We’ll have more information on the ModMax over coming weeks.

The docking station has also been receiving a fair bit of attention. There’s still work to do on it, but most testing at this stage is going quite favorably, which is a good indicator of a close release.

Mac OS Beta 2 – Now With GUI!

We have a second beta for Mac OS (which includes a basic GUI).

If you have registered your interest on our Mac OS mailling list you will have already received notification of this release.

Installation instructions and userguide are included in the dmg file.

This Beta will allow you to change the APN, and will work for both BigPond and Telstra users (although we encourage BigPond customers to use BigPond’s Beta software available here).

A final GUI is not too far away, with significantly extended features (such as allowing international roaming, PIN management and data/time counters).

We received yesterday a new build of the driver for internal testing.Ã‚ So far it has proved more stable than previous ones on PPC machines so hopefully we’ll have a stable release of the preference pane GUI for you soon!

I won’t promise when it will be released, but we’ll be flogging it as hard as we can today.

Hi folks,

I know it’s been quiet for a little while, but we’ve had our heads down working hard!Ã‚ Beta 2 for the TTM on Mac OS is nearly done.Ã‚ We’ve been doing in-house testing on it, and there’s only one last remaining bug that we have to iron out before a public release!

We’ve been talking with Telstra, and they have requested we leave the driver up in it’s current form while we work on different connection options.

If you are on a PcPack plan (hourly based) you will be charged at the PAYG rate, which is charged per KB.

We are working urgently on providing other connection options.

URGENT – Do not use Beta driver.

Following confirmation from Telstra, we have removed the beta driver for the time being.

The driver in it’s current state connects to the telstra.internet APN, which can be charged at the PAYG rate, which is charged per KB. Due to this, we have removed the driver until we revise the connection APN.

In the mean time, please DO NOT use the previous beta supplied, as you will quite possibly incur large charges!

Important note regarding MacOS beta driver.

Following some concerns that were raised, please not the following about the driver:

When it connects, it connects using the telstra.internet APN (rather than telstra.pcpack or telstra.datapack).

We are unsure at this stage as to what difference it actually makes, and are chasing it up with Telstra.Ã‚Â We’re also working on providing a couple of different drivers, with the different APNs coded into them.

In the mean time, please realise that connecting to telstra.internet (that is, using the beta driver) might cause your billing to be different.Ã‚Â We can’t provide any guarantees either way.
