Techagro Pacific Pty Ltd is an Australian company, which together with it’s sister company TechAgro Ltd in Brazil, develops automation and precision agriculture technologies primarily for the sugarcane industry.Among different products and services, Techagro Pacific has been trialing On Board Computers for agricultural equipment, as well as automatic base cutter system and yield monitors for sugarcane harvesters.

Taking advantage of the new NextG modmax modem developed and commercialized by Maxon, Techagro Pacific has developed a new application to track it’s agricultural machinery online.

Techagro On Board Computer has been connected to a ModMax modem, sending position and performance information to a remote database server. On Line Benchmarking Software developed by Techagro Pacific connects to the remote server and processes the information producing temporal and spatial reports of harvester operations.

In 2008 Herbert Cane Productivity Services Ltd (HCPSL) plans to install 80 Techagro On Board Computers with Next G modems into the entire cane harvester fleet.

HCPSL is half funded by the districts 800 cane growers and half by sugar giant CSR. The district grows around 5 Million tonnes of sugar cane. It provides productivity services to the Herbert River Sugar Cane region in Ingham, North Queensland.

Currently the harvest is tracked with GPS Data Loggers which use SD Cards. It is hoped that the change to On Board Computers with NextG modems will allow for a range of efficiencies and cost benefits at the harvest transport interface and improvements in terms of data transfer and storage.

The use of Techagro On Board Computers with Maxon NextG modems opens new possibilities for on line tracking and automatic cane consignment, among other applications.
