1.  General maXvpn Frequently Asked Questions

1.1 What is maXvpn?

maXvpn is a fully managed IP VPN service provided by Maxon Australia. This VPN solution leverages the IP connectivity of an existing ADSL or cable connection, enabling remote offices or individual users to securely access their wireless connections, within maXwan, virtually from anywhere.

1.2 What is the difference between maXwan and maXvpn?

maXwan is a fully managed wireless IP WAN network which operates within Telstra’s NextG network. Devices connecting to maXwan are assigned a fixed IP address and use telstra.corp APN instead of the public APN used by normal internet users.
On the other hand, maXvpn is a fully managed IP VPN service which is used in conjunction with maXwan. It allows a secure tunnel access to wireless connections within maXwan via an existing internet connection (ADSL or Cable). A single maXvpn connection can provide access to all your devices within maXwan.

1.3 Do I need to install any software to use maXvpn? If yes, where can I get the software from?

Yes. You will need to install VPN-Client software in order to use maXvpn. The software is provided, via email, to customers upon activation of maXvpn connection(s). This software is included free with activation of at least one (1) maXvpn service.

1.4 How large is the software and how can I install it??

The file size of the software is 5Mb. You need to run the .exe setup file to install the VPN-Client software on the local drive of your computer. Please note that the software cannot be installed on the network.

3.  Network Frequently Asked Questions

3.1 Which networks can I access through maXvpn? Can maXvpn be used without having any maXwan connections?

The only network that can be accessed through a maXvpn connection is your maXwan service(s). maXvpn can only be used in conjunction with the maXwan network.

3.2 How secure is maXvpn?

The maXvpn solution includes advanced security features such as DEAA (Data Encryption, Authentication, and Authorization). All communication is encrypted for data confidentiality and integrity. Internet Protocol Security Protocol (IPSec) which operates on the network layer of the OSI Model is used to provide enhanced security for virtual-private connections. IPSec creates a tunnel between the host and remote devices to securely transfer data, without an association to any specific application. maXvpn uses group policy which means users can only access their devices and not any devices inside the maXwan network.

3.3 How does IPSec work?

IPSec creates a tunnel between the host and remote devices to securely transfer data, without an association to any specific application.

3.4 How are the devices accessed in the field using maXvpn?

After a successful authentication maXvpn provides secure VPN tunnel in to the maXwan network. Users will then be able to access devices that are online inside the maXwan network.

3.5 What are the limitations of maXvpn?

• Customers need to install the VPN-Client software on their computer.
• maXvpn can only be used in conjunction with the maXwan network.
• Username(s) and password(s) will be allocated by Maxon Australia.
• At least one (1) maXwan service is required at the time of maXvpn service activation.
• A maXwan service is limited to connectivity via Telstra 3G devices

3.6 Is there any limit to the number of connections I can have for maXvpn?

maXvpn client software can be installed on any standard laptop/PC.

One (1) maXvpn account can be used on multiple laptops/pcs; however this account can only be used by one (1) user at a time. Simultaneous remote access is not possible with only one (1) maXvpn account.

If more than one (1) laptop/PC requires simultaneous remote access into the maXwan network; a maXvpn account, with multiple sessions, must be purchased. Enabling multiple users simultaneous access to all your devices within maXwan.
