Is your business currently using 2G devices ?

Telstra are shutting down their 2G network in 2016......

Now that you have had a chance to let that sink in.........its time to act!

Evaluate the costs versus the long term viability of the options - The most obvious and easiest option is to change carriers to one that still supports 2G if there is geographic coverage. This may seem the most cost effective but we believe it is delaying the inevitable. Eventually other carriers will follow Telstra and also close down their 2G network.

In most cases replacing 2G hardware with 3G hardware is a better long term option, as 3G cellular hardware has such different physical characteristics to 2G that it cannot be simply upgraded through a firmware update. Maxon can work with you to develop a solution that is tailored to your application. See below we have provided information about three of our 3G devices; Smartmax, Intelimax and Unimax+.

What action should you take now to deal with the shut down? Evaluate how many units you will need to be upgraded then start the process of determining the engineering alternatives.
